Dairy Vendor Finance Opportunity for the Right People

After a long career in the dairy industry, we are ready to step back and provide an ownership opportunity for another family. Since buying our first herd over 40 years ago, we’ve worked extremely hard to grow our business to ownership of a 150ha property in Taranaki supporting 400 cows. Our reasons for exiting now are straightforward—we’re moving into a new phase of life and looking to free up some capital to give ourselves and our wider family options for the future. We are open to exploring how we might help another family into farm ownership, including discussing vendor finance, deferred settlement and/or a partial purchase/partial lease arrangement that works for both parties.

We run a spring calving system where only 50 milking cows are grazed off for eight weeks, along with all young stock. We also milk off a smaller, adjoining leased property, and we typically operate with 2–2.5 full-time equivalents (FTE). The farm is of mixed contour and we have completed our riparian planting plan.

Our property is in multiple titles and has strong infrastructure, including:

- 40 bale rotary milking shed

- Feed pad, maize and silage bunker

- Land-based effluent disposal system

- Good sheds and four dwellings

We’re looking for a family who are a strong team, and who can demonstrate strong operational skills, good staff and financial management, and a commitment to farming excellence. Ideally, the incoming party would be in the position to buy a substantial share of the farm upfront, and that we negotiate a structured plan for transitioning to full ownership over time.
